Stepping Towards Success: Inside the Northside Step Team's Journey to the West Coast Competition

#Back2Besa - The Northside step team has been practicing hard, gearing up for their latest competition this month in Las Vegas, at the 2024 West Coast National Youth Step Show Competition. — Founded by Darnesha Bowman, who is also the owner of Black Coffee NW, and coached by Champaign O'Brien, who started off in the program at the age of 5. The Northside Step Team is more than just a step team; it’s all about setting young girls up to have a successful future ahead of them. The program, in its 24th year, continues to have a 100% high school graduation rate. When the girls aren’t leaving it all on the floor, they’re exposed to community service, civic engagement, voter registration drives, and food drives, and they even take HBCU College tours — it’s no wonder that year after year, they’re one of the nations best programs on the floor and in the classroom.

Besa Gordon caught up with the Northside Step Team as they prepare for the West Coast Youth Step Show Competition in Las Vegas this month. A place that is all too familiar for these young steppers as they look to bring a championship trophy back home to the Emerald City.
