WATERFRONT BLOCK PARTY

Friends of Waterfront Seattle Waterfront Block Party was a great time on the pier

Featuring performers, food, activities, and more, the event brought the community together to celebrate the start of summer. With a Livestream hosted by Converge’s own Besa Gordon and G. Prez Asphy and the events on stage hosted by TraeAnna Holiday, there were good times all around. Below you can find interviews with performers and event staff as well as photos and videos of the event itself.

DAVID RUE

David Rue is the Public Programs Coordinator for Friends of Waterfront Seattle and spoke with Besa Gordon about the work he’s doing with FOW Seattle to create engaging programming at Pier 62. He said the community can get involved through the FWS website, and believes that connecting people within the community is a big part of his job.

DEEJAY HERSHE

Deejay Hershe was bringing the heat all evening long as the event DJ. She said she wants to spread good vibes and DJing has been a good way for her to meet people since she moved to Seattle. Originally from Florida, she said being near the water is one of her favorite things and she loves the community space created by Pier 62.

THE DOLLS AND GENTS DRILL TEAM

The Dolls and Gents Drill Team provided one of the most electric performances of the evening. Hear from two members about their experiences and why they do what they do, as well as how kids and teens can get involved.

WYKING GARRETT

Wyking Garrett of Africatown Community Land Trust and Black Dot spoke about some recent community events, including Africatown Soul on the Water. He said the partnership between FWS and Africatown Community Land Trust has been beneficial and he hopes to continue to connect the community with the waterfront.

THATCHER BAILEY

Thatcher Bailey, the Interim Executive Director of Friends of Waterfront Seattle, discusses the work he does and the vibe their looking to cultivate at the Pier. He also talks about the partners for the days event and how the selection process works.

STEPHANIE HURAS

Stephanie Huras is the Director for Consumer Experience & Customer Success at Stanley. Stanley’s mission is to make quality drinkware out of sustainable materials. They sponsored the Block Party and handed out 500 free reusable pints to attendees. Huras chatted with G. Prez Asphy about the company and their partnership with Friends of Waterfront Seattle.
