A Celebration of Strength, Brotherhood, and Community: Honoring Darryl Glover on his 58th Birthday
Friends, family, and members of the Brothers United In Leadership Development (BUILD206) recently gathered at Acts on Stage in White Center, Washington to celebrate videographer and storyteller Darryl Glover’s 58th birthday with a roast and fundraiser for his health funds.
The atmosphere was one of gratitude, love, and laughter, honoring Glover’s dedication to the community despite his fight against cancer and kidney failure. Andre Franklin, a founding member of BUILD206, framed the night’s intent as a way to show gratitude and love, and to “have some Black joy.”
The evening painted a portrait of Glover as a remarkable man, described by his loved ones as “resilient,” “reliable,” and “a man of his word.” His wife of 31 years Treona Glover, daughter Trinity Glover, and nephew Fynniecko Glover Jr. all spoke on the man of the hour with immense admiration.
"Life is what you make it to be. And my uncle always preached that he lives by that and he embodies that,” Fynniecko Glover Jr. said.

Darryl Glover’s impact was evident in the testimonials of his BUILD206 family and friends. His relationship with the organization was repeatedly highlighted, with member Isiah Anderson Jr. calling him a “steadfast, unmovable individual who you can clearly count on at any time.”
Jaelynn Scott, Executive Director of the Lavender Rights Project, emphasized Glover's authentic community commitment, always seeing people as human beings and greeting them with love, support, and a want to build community with them.
Despite facing significant personal and health challenges throughout his journey, Darryl Glover remains a source of strength for his community. While the end of a race may look nothing like its beginning, perseverance remains essential, he said.
"You out there who are going through something and not sure what the top of the stairway looks like... find something to grab onto it,” he said. “Hold tight and use that to guide you through."
