A New Chapter: Avery Barnes Gallery Announces Strategic Expansion

The Seattle art scene is evolving, and at the heart of this transformation is the Avery Barnes Gallery. Formerly known as TASWIRA, the gallery has officially rebranded and is now embarking on a significant strategic expansion, including a transition to a new, larger Seattle location.

From TASWIRA to Avery Barnes Gallery

Founded by entrepreneur and curator Avery Barnes—a member of the Forbes 30 Under 30 Seattle Class—the gallery began as a social impact company celebrating the African diaspora and women of color. After years of sustained growth in the historic Pioneer Square arts district, this evolution represents a deepened commitment to providing a "robust platform" for artists and building a bridge between local talent and the global stage.

"You’ve Had It In You All Along": The Final Pioneer Square Exhibition

As the gallery prepares for its move, it is currently hosting the group exhibition "You’ve Had It In You All Along," which runs through June 7, 2026. The show explores themes of "resiliency and truth found within the feminine" and features a curated selection of some of the region's most influential voices:

  • Cristina Martinez: Known for her vibrant storytelling and "Water Me" series, Martinez’s work captures the intricacies of life as a woman of color.

  • Tariqa Waters: A prominent multidisciplinary artist and curator.

  • Robert Wade: Whose work is featured alongside the "crème de la crème" of Seattle artists.

While many pieces have already been placed in private collections, a select number of works remain available for purchase before the exhibition concludes.

Join the Conversation: Public Panel Discussion

The transition isn't just about a change of scenery; it's about deepening the dialogue around artistic practice. On May 24th, the gallery will host a public panel discussion featuring represented artists. The conversation will delve into:

  • Individual artistic practice and conviction.

  • Navigating the cultural landscape of Seattle and beyond.

Admission is free, but an RSVP is required. Stay tuned for the announcement regarding the venue and time.
