Angelica Marie Talks Creative Evolution and Of Sand and Sea Fashion Show on The Day With Trae

Artist and founder of the Black & Brown Beauty Collective Angelica Marie recently appeared on The Day With Trae with guest host Deaunte Damper to dive into her mission at the Collective and the upcoming Of Sand and Sea fashion show.

A Journey Rooted in Artistic Curiosity

Reflecting on what initially sparked her artistic passion, Angelica shared how a strong sense of imagination served as a refuge during her youth.

"I had a very active imagination as a kid, and a lot of it was to escape and find a place in my brain where the possibilities could live, even though I wasn't necessarily seeing those possibilities expressed in my outward environment,” she said.

As she grew older, her curiosity drove her to seek out creative outlets across Western Washington, eventually expanding her artistic repertoire to singing, acting, dancing, theater, teaching, and professional modeling.

Embracing the Power of the Pivot

Addressing how she navigates dark or challenging periods as an artist, Angelica emphasized the necessity of adapting and recognizing when to transition into new mediums. After modeling professionally for five years, she recognized a shift in her creative drive that prompted her to transition behind the lens.

"Never underestimate how powerful a pivot can be,” she said. “You keep going by just paying attention to what your art is doing and being true to where you're at at the moment."

She described photography as a key tool for capturing joy and freezing meaningful moments in time, which eventually led to her current role as a fashion show producer.

Of Sand and Sea: Prioritizing Rest, Play, and Community

Angelica's latest venture is the co-production of Of Sand and Sea, a collaboration with designer Jessica Daix, held at the Golden Gardens Bathhouse in Seattle. The event blends high fashion with wellness, offering attendees an intentional space to pause, rest, and engage with local vendors right along the waterfront.

Explaining the core vision behind the showcase, Angelica highlighted the importance of self-care and community-driven efforts:

"We don't prioritize rest like we need to. And not only do we not prioritize rest, we don't prioritize play,” she said, explaining that these are the core values of Of Sand and Sea.

When discussing the process of assembling the show's team, from makeup artists to lighting technicians, she stressed that leaning on local support is important for any meaningful event.

"You need your community. It doesn't make sense to do it by yourself. Not at this point,” she said.

The Of Sand and Sea fashion show will take place Sunday, October 11th at the Golden Gardens Bathhouse from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets and additional event information are available at of-sand-and-sea.com.

Catch “The Day With Trae” Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11 a.m. on all Converge streaming platforms.
