Besa Gordon Talks Back2Besa 2026 on Good Day Seattle: Why Telling Our Stories Still Matters
By Besa Gordon - This week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Erin Mayovsky on Good Day Seattle to talk about where Back2Besa is headed in 2026 — and more importantly, why this work continues to matter to me on such a personal level. When Erin asked me to describe the soul of Back2Besa, the answer came easily. The soul of this show has always been the community.
I might be the one holding the mic, but these aren’t my stories alone. They belong to the people who trust me to tell them — the small business owners, the artists, the organizers, the everyday folks creating joy and impact across the Pacific Northwest. Being a vessel for those stories is what brings me the most joy, and it’s the reason Back2Besa continues to feel like home.
During the segment, we shared a clip that reflected on how this journey started back in 2023 — with a simple but intentional mission: to tell our own stories, the right way. Not the narratives that are often placed on us, but the ones that make us feel seen, celebrated, and whole.
Three years later, that mission hasn’t changed.
What has grown is the reach. We talked about how Back2Besa has expanded far beyond Seattle — traveling through Portland, Spokane, Anchorage, and communities all across the Pacific Northwest. That part matters deeply to me, because representation shouldn’t stop at city limits. Our stories don’t live in just one place, and neither should the spotlight.
One of the most meaningful moments in the conversation came when Erin asked how I stay motivated — especially when the work can be exhausting. And the truth is, my community keeps me going. But so does the responsibility.
I shared a quote from Pacific Northwest Ballet dancer Jonathan Batista that has stayed with me: “Growing up, you don’t always see yourself.” As an adult, I take that to heart. If I didn’t always see myself growing up, then it’s on me now to make sure the next generation does. To let young girls who look like me know that this life — being on TV, telling stories, building platforms — is possible.
At the end of the day, this work is for them.
And honestly, it’s for the younger version of me, too.
Back2Besa isn’t just a show. It’s a commitment to uplifting Black joy, honoring our leaders and entrepreneurs, and reminding our communities — across the Pacific Northwest and beyond — that our stories matter.
And we’re just getting started.
Back2Besa airs Saturdays at 10:30 PM on FOX 13 Seattle, Sundays at 10 AM on FOX 13+, and again Sundays at 8 PM on FOX 13+.
