City Beats with Tra’Renee: Portland Pops Off This Weekend
When we say Portland knows how to keep the weekend lit, Tra’Renee always proves us right. On this week’s City Beats, she dropped the rundown of events that had us ready to hop on Amtrak and pull up.
First off, the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated are taking over downtown Portland with the Ivy, Pearls & Sneakers Takeover. Picture a sea of pink and green at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center, music, networking, and sisterhood in full effect. The best part? It is free and open to guests, so you do not even have to be an AKA to catch the vibe.
Then Saturday, it is all about community with Rose City Jam’s Night Sports at the Blazers Boys & Girls Club. From basketball skills training with Blazers coach Pooh Jeter to free haircuts, food, custom tees, and raffles, this one is truly for the people. D.J O.G. One will be on the vibes, making sure the energy stays high all night. Again, free and family-friendly.
To close out the weekend, D.J O.G. One keeps it rolling with the Meeting of the Minds Mixer on Sunday at White Eagle Saloon. This monthly gathering is all about community updates, a music spotlight, and pushing back against negative narratives about Portland. It is the perfect space to show up, speak up, and connect with folks shaping the city’s future.
Tra’Renee always comes through with the heat, and this weekend in Portland is no exception. Whether you are rocking your sorority colors, bringing the fam out for hoops and haircuts, or joining the conversation at White Eagle, there is truly something for everyone.
