Converge celebrates Juneteenth at Jimi Hendrix Park!

Join Trae Holiday and ProofNThePlay as they experience the Juneteenth festivities at Jimi Hendrix Park. Proof gives his food takes and more, and Trae talks to community figures Emijah Smith, Paris Alexa and Wyking Garrett.

It’s just so special to see this many Black people, this many smiling faces, all in one space,” Alexa said. “Especially in Seattle I feel like we’re under-represented, and in statistics we’re under-represented. But we make the most impact, and this shows what we look like when we gather in numbers.”

It was a day of festivity and celebration, with food, performances, and art. Joy spread across the park and Trae and Proof experienced it all. Through the festive atmosphere, Garrett made sure to keep a focus on the greater message as well.

“Yes it’s about coming together, celebrating our resilience, being beautiful, being with the talent and creativity on stage,” Garrett said. “We also have to stay focused on the message that we have a lot of freedom and equity that we still have to achieve.”

You can see all of the excitement from the Juneteenth celebration in the video above.
