Converge On The Road: DJ Defkawn Hosts Besa Gordon and Curtis Delgardo II in Mt. Vernon
#ConvergeOnTheRoad - The Converge Media crew recently tapped in with DJ Defkawn and DJ Troll King, the dynamic duo behind the legendary radio show, "The Re-Up," broadcasting live from KSVR 91.7 FM in Mount Vernon, Washington. The on-air conversation between the DJs and the Converge hosts was a meeting of minds focused on community, culture, and the importance of Black Media.
Defkawn’s roots run deep at the station. He’s been a staple in the North Sound airwaves for decades, with a passion that remains unmatched.
“KSVR is a community-based radio station... [and] has become a very valued part of the community in many various aspects,” he said. With 21 years at the station under his belt, Defkawn is proof that authentic, local radio still makes an impact.
Defkawn described “The Re-Up” as a hip-hop public affairs variety show that champions inclusivity. “It’s an all-inclusive brand of media being built... We have a little bit of everything for everybody,” he said.
His co-host DJ Troll King praised Defkawn’s relentless drive. “The dude has an energy which cannot be met in my personal opinion,” Troll King said, explaining his own purpose behind “The Re-Up.” “I just want…to know that I made someone's life a little bit better that night.”
The show is a magnet for top-tier talent, including multi-platinum artists and local legends. Alongside Gordon and Delgardo, the hosts connected with recording artist, actor, and singer The Artist Kali. Kali, who met Defkawn at the Seattle Sound Music Awards, was on air to premiere his new song, "The Wolf," an entry track he wrote for bare-knuckle fighter Juan Figuerva.
From the moment Gordon and Delgardo entered the studio, they said the vibes felt like home. “Shout out to our guy Defkawn for having us down here... It was a blast,” Delgardo said.
DJ Defkawn’s ultimate goal for the show aligns with the mission of Converge Media: to engage the people, elevate the culture, and uplift Black Media in the Puget Sound.
“When [people] listen to our programming, I want them to feel like, ‘Yo, I dig it,’ with whatever we’re bringing to the table,” he said.
