Converge On The Road: Pit Stops, Stories, and Scenic Vistas on the Way to Terrain 17
Like clockwork, the first weekend of October means that the Converge Media and Colman Commons team is on the road again for our sixth annual trek across Washington State to Terrain 17, the inland Northwest’s largest multimedia art festival in Spokane.
Led by Colman Commons Executive Director Ashleigh McCurdy, producer Mead Gill, and Converge co-founder Erik Kalligraphy, this year’s journey is a rolling celebration of Pacific Northwest art, culture, and community storytelling.
First Stop: Ellensburg & The Legacy of "Facing The Reign"
Navigating past the Cascade foothills along Interstate 90, the crew’s first major stop brought us to Ellensburg, Washington. Stopping near the iconic Ellensburg Rodeo grounds provided a moment to reflect on Converge Media’s deep storytelling roots East of the mountains.
In 2024, Converge produced the landmark documentary film "Facing The Reign", following Jessa Thomas, Washington State’s first Black rodeo queen. Beyond her reign, Jessa continues to inspire through her work at her family’s Windswept Farms raising livestock and her "Be YOU-tiful" platform, which actively breaks barriers and promotes representation in Western sports and rodeo culture.

Second Stop: The Vantage Overlook and the Majestic Columbia River
Continuing east toward the Columbia Basin, no Converge road trip is complete without our pitstop at the Scenic Overlook in Vantage, Washington. High above the winding Columbia River, the crew paused to take in the panoramic views, record social updates, and embrace the natural beauty that connects Eastern and Western Washington.
Looking Ahead: Terrain 17 & Spokane’s Legacy Communities
Up next: checking into the artsy Symons Block Hotel, conducting exclusive artist interviews during Terrain’s Preview Night, capturing B-roll of the crowds on Terrain’s Main Event, and paying homage to Spokane’s historic Black community in East Central Spokane.
Stay tuned across all Converge Media and Colman Commons platforms for real-time updates throughout the weekend!
