Barry Gayle, the multifaceted artist known as DJ TOPSPIN, alias BLENDIANA JONES, recently joined Trae Holiday on The Day With Trae to provide an update on his latest ventures in events and music. With an illustrious career spanning nearly 30 years, Gayle has been djing in the Northwest and globally, having performed in Europe, the Middle East, throughout Africa, and recently at Carnegie Hall.

With an ability to blend diverse hits & unearthed gems spanning multiple genres, Gayle uniquely crafts body moving musical tapestries at weddings, corporate events, and concerts. This artistry, honed since the inception of his career, remains a focal point of his creative journey.

"I'm not the only DJ in the world, and I'm not the only DJ that came up with vinyl, but I know that I'm particular in my approach.  "I've been listening to some old mixtapes of mine that I've digitized," Gayle said. "There's one I came across that I hadn't. I was like, 'Wow, I was in a harmonic zone even when it was just records."

Gayle further elaborated on his craft, emphasizing the balance between technology and intuition in his musical process.

"With technology, you can almost assign a note to any song. You can mix two songs, and it could be off by a note, and you can just switch and dial to change the key to another note, and there's utility in that, but there's magic in finding it naturally," Gayle said. "That's what I have been doing since I started. The discovery portion is where my particular magic lies."

Gayle reflected on a recent performance at the Revelry Room in West Seattle, where he delved into the essence of DJing and spotlighted the profound connection he shares with his audience.

"Just seeing how the crowd reacts to things that you feel are special; and when it hits them, and they're looking at you like and coming up later, and like, 'Man, you did the thing.' That's what I love," Gayle said. "It's not even just the ego thing. It's a magic-spreading thing. Because you know, we are playing with people's emotions and your memory banks and, and all these synapses and pieces of your brain and memories, and when you can send someone on their way with an experience that they're just like, man, that's when I feel the most utility."
