Elisha Michelle Takes the Reins on Monday Nights at Black Media Matters Studio

Is it feeling a little legendary in here? Cultural curator and icon Elisha Michelle premiered her new show The Pop-Up! Presents: The Legendary Dope Show live from the Black Media Matters Studio last week, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Broadcasting every Monday evening, the show represents a full-circle evolution for Michelle, transitioning from her monthly guest feature on The Pop-Up! to anchoring her own weekly show. To kick it off, she kept it in the family, but every Monday she’ll interview cultural influencers from Tacoma and beyond.

From Apartment Roots to Live Media Studio

Before partnering with Converge, Michelle first launched The Legendary Dope Show podcast in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, conducting interviews from her own apartment. Over the years, along with her LX3 team and co-host LROC, the platform grew to highlight hundreds of artists, entrepreneurs, and local community figures.

Earlier this year, Michelle started hosting Tacoma Takeover on The Pop-Up!, a monthly broadcast where she interviewed friends and local talent from the 253. That successful run paved the way for her new weekly show. Reflecting on her transition to the Black Media Matters Studio, Michelle described the platform as a dream realized.

"It was really just betting on myself, really not knowing what I was doing. This was something I was passionate about, and this is what I felt that I was made to do," Michelle said.

A Legacy of Community Curation: The Legendary AF Series

Throughout the premiere, Michelle reflected on her track record of organizing high-impact community events across the Pacific Northwest under her Legendary AF banner. Built to foster unity among regional creatives and push back against perceived divisions, the event series featured distinct themes designed to showcase local talent:

  • Legendary AF 1 (Tribute to Music): Held at Zanadu Studios in Auburn, Washington, the inaugural gathering brought together local vendors, musicians, and figures including rapper Mafi D.

  • Legendary AF 2 (Tribute to Fashion): Highlighting Pacific Northwest fashion, this event showcased multiple designers, runway models, and local creatives.

  • Legendary AF 3 (Tribute to Dance): Focused on movement and performance, featuring majorette dance teams.

Michelle announced that the next iteration, Legendary AF 4: A Tribute to Art, is scheduled for Sunday, October 18 at Colman Commons, Seattle’s premier events space and art gallery on the waterfront.

Looking Ahead

As Michelle steps into The Pop-Up! rotation as a host, she is actively inviting local talent, creatives, and entrepreneurs to join her on air. Anyone looking to connect with Michelle can reach out to her on Instagram and Facebook or find past podcast episodes online.

"If you have a passion for something, lean on yourself, lean on your community... Nothing is out of reach if you really, really want it,” she said.

Catch The Pop-Up! Presents: The Legendary Dope Show Mondays live at 7 p.m. on all Converge Media streaming platforms.
