Follow the Yellow Brick Road Downtown: ‘The Wizard of Oz’ Takes Over The 5th Avenue Theatre This Holiday Season
As the leaves finish dropping and the chill in the air reminds us that the holidays are right around the corner, it’s time to start locking in those plans with the family. If you’re looking for the perfect mix of nostalgia, world-class production, and a reason to get the family dressed up and out on the town, The 5th Avenue Theatre is serving up some serious magic this season.
Starting next month on November 27th, The 5th is transforming its historic downtown stage into the Emerald City with their highly anticipated centerpiece holiday production of The Wizard of Oz.
This isn't just a regular run-of-the-mill stage play. Directed by Bill Berry (who you might remember from Jesus Christ Superstar and Into the Woods), this production is utilizing the legendary Royal Shakespeare Company adaptation. That means it stays incredibly true to the iconic 1939 film we all grew up watching in our living rooms. It features the classic score by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, so you can expect to hear all the legendary anthems, from "Over the Rainbow" to "Follow the Yellow Brick Road."
Whether it’s part of your annual holiday tradition or you’re introducing the younger generation to Dorothy, Toto, and the squad for the very first time, this is the kind of massive, shared experience that makes Seattle’s arts scene so special. Word on the street is the production isn't holding back, either. Expect massive, immersive set designs and actual flying sequences that are going to light up the stage.
