Fred Hutch Cancer Center To Host Free Colorectal Cancer Community Awareness Event

The Fred Hutch Cancer Center is hosting a free Colorectal Cancer Community Awareness Event on Saturday, March 7, at 10 a.m. This vital event is designed to empower the community with essential knowledge about colorectal cancer, offering a relaxed and friendly setting to discuss a serious health issue that disproportionately affects Black and Native communities.

Attendees can expect to gain valuable information directly from experts, with opportunities to:

  • Learn about screening for colorectal cancer: Discover how getting a screening can find and remove small growths before they become cancerous.

  • Speak with doctors and cancer survivors: Hear personal stories and pick up tips on prevention and screening from those who have direct experience.

  • Connect with health care resources: Talk with navigators who can help connect attendees with necessary health care resources.

  • Enjoy interactive exhibits, community resources, and food: Lunch will be provided while supplies last.

Fred Hutch emphasizes that getting screened is critical for everyone, especially for Black and Native American communities, who more often have cancer found at a later stage. While most people should start screening at age 45, the event highlights that about one-third of adults have never been screened, and aims to demonstrate the accessibility of a simple screening and its impact in hindering the development of colorectal cancer.

Don't miss out on this important and eye-opening event to raise awareness and support each other. Registration through Eventbrite is optional and not required to attend.
