Geno Smith Hosts 2nd Annual Turkey Giveaway In The Central District

Tuesday marked the annual Geno Smith Turkey Giveaway in the Central District. The Seahawks Quarterback partnered with Jerk Shack Kitchen and chef Trey Lamont as well as the 7Sunday Heroes Foundation to give out 212 turkeys along with other food and household items. There was also music, face painting and more as Smith brought the good vibes during the holiday season.

“I’m out here giving back to a community that means everything to me,” Smith said. “There’s never enough time to get out here and be with the people, Seattle is a great city. Seeing great smiles out here is amazing.”

For Lamont, being able to team up with Geno was a great moment as they continue their partnership from last year. The Jerk Shack Kitchen recently opened in the Central District, and so hosting the giveaway near the restaurant was an easy decision.

“This year, we did 212 turkeys plus sides. I remember going to turkey giveaways when I was younger to make a good Thanksgiving and this is something that I was a recipient of and we have to do for the community,” Lamont said.

Many lined up just to meet the quarterback as well, who has led the Hawks to a 6-4 record this far in his second season as starter. He signed autographs and posed for pictures as he worked to inspire the next generation.

Besa Gordon, host of Back2Besa on FOX13 Seattle and evening on air personality on HITS 106.1, said that the community presence and impact was inspiring.

“You really just have to want to give back. That’s what’s needed,” Gordon said. “There’s so many people that need help.”

Art Queen Takiyah TDUB Ward was also present to showcase the custom cleats she designed for Geno Smith which were later raffled off.

“He wanted something to represent 7Sunday Heroes, and I’m super excited with how this project turned out,” Ward said.
