Hop on a Train, Hit a Museum, and More Besa Gordon’s PNW Things to Do Anytime
By Besa Gordon - Ever wanted to find something fun to do around the Greater Seattle area, but you couldnt find an event to go to? I got you! Below is a list of six things you can do at anytime of the year. And let me keep it real—out of the six things I mentioned this week, I’ve only done one. ONE. And I was born and raised in Seattle. So now I’m on a mission to knock out the rest before summer’s up.
Here’s what made the list:
🚆 Ride the Amtrak Train to Tacoma + Roam Freighthouse Square
If you’ve never taken the Amtrak to Tacoma, I highly recommend it. The ride is smooth, the views are solid, and yes—there’s Wi-Fi and snacks. The best part? It drops you off right across the street from Freighthouse Square. That place is packed with locally owned shops and fire food spots, so make sure you give yourself time to wander. 🪖 Buffalo Soldiers Museum – Tacoma
This is a hidden gem with so much history. The Buffalo Soldiers Museum in Tacoma exists to honor the lives and contributions of Black soldiers who are often left out of mainstream military narratives. It’s powerful, educational, and important. Plan a visit at buffalosoldierstacoma.org.
🚀 Spaceland – Tacoma
I couldn’t talk about VR fun in Seattle last week and not find something in Tacoma too! Spaceland is that spot. You’ll find laser tag, paintball, hide and seek, and more. It’s all family-friendly but also grown-up approved if you want to let your inner kid out for a bit. Visit spacelandwa.com for details.
🐠 Seattle Aquarium’s New Ocean Pavilion
We’ve all been to the Seattle Aquarium… but have you seen the new Ocean Pavilion? I haven’t (yet), but the photos alone make it look like a whole vibe. If you love water—or just need a peaceful moment with the sea creatures—this is a great solo or group outing. Info is at seattleaquarium.org.
🛳️ Staycation Vibes – Whidbey Island
And finally, if you need a staycation, let me put you on to Whidbey Island. It’s chill, scenic, and feels like a full reset without going far. Whether you're looking for cozy cabin vibes, beach views, or just a peaceful getaway—you’ll find it there.
You don’t need a big event or plane ticket to make memories around here. Whether you're hopping on a train to Tacoma or planning a day trip to Whidbey, these little adventures are a whole shmood. So grab your calendar, send this post to your crew, and let me know which one you’re checking out first!
