Inside the Tacoma Takeover: Elisha Michelle Recaps a Legendary Night on The Pop-Up!

Following Friday's massive "Tacoma Takeover" on The Pop-Up!, culture curator Elisha Michelle sat down to share her raw thoughts, favorite takeaways, and the electric energy that filled the room. Bringing seven guests and conducting six interviews, the episode was an authentic, unscripted celebration of the 253 community. For Elisha, it was a beautiful full-circle moment to bring her friends and local creators to Converge Media to give them their well-deserved spotlight.

Elisha’s Standout Moments

The lineup was packed with Tacoma heavyweights, and Elisha loved getting to watch her community shine on air. Here are a few of her favorite highlights from the night:

  • Cinnamon Jovan: Elisha loved seeing the author of Drink Your Beauty completely step out of her shell. "She's always so usually quiet when I meet her and reserved," Elisha noted, making it an incredible moment to see her open up on screen.

  • India Irons: Described as a total "powerhouse all around," India blew everyone away with how she seamlessly merges mental health clinician work, faith, and youth dance programs.

  • Don Pizzle: The hip-hop artist brought incredible visuals and an unexpected surprise—Elisha actually didn't know he had a clothing line until the show! She also gave a quick nod to his North Carolina roots.

  • Dieon & DJ: Having first interviewed this duo way back on the Legendary Dope Show, Elisha loved reflecting on their massive growth and witnessing everything they’ve built with Synergy.

  • Akeil "Mack" Richardson: Elisha praised his evolution from artist to community organizer. She shouted him out for his incredible ideas and his massive help pulling together the recent Legendary AF 3 event.

Behind the Scenes at Black Media Matters Studio

The vibe inside the Black Media Matters Studio was nothing short of pure joy. Elisha revealed that once the cameras stopped rolling, the team and guests didn't want to leave. They were "running around like little kids," taking endless photos and soaking in the celebratory atmosphere.

"Whenever I come to the Black Media Matters Studio, it just feels like I'm at home. So yeah, it was just amazing. I loved it." — Elisha Michelle

Are More Takeovers on the Horizon?

If you're wondering whether we'll see Elisha and the crew back for another takeover soon, the answer is a resounding yes. Elisha made it clear that she is ready to jump back into the studio the very second another opportunity arises.

Stay tuned to the culture, and make sure you don't miss the next time the Legendary crew pulls up!
