Meet Zaccharaya Wisdom - The First Black Draft Pick of the Seattle Kraken

On this week's episode of #Back2Besa, we met Zaccharya Wisdom - the first Black draft pick of the Seattle Kraken. Earlier this year we headed to the Kraken Development Camp to take a look at the newest members of Seattle’s hockey team, and connected with Wisdom to hear about his journey to the NHL.

“It’s a dream come true,” Wisdom said. “I don’t even know how to put it into words. My journey has been tough but being out on the ice here it’s 100% worth it.”

Wisdom comes from a hockey family, and his brother Zayde was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2020. He said that he’s inspired by his brother and is excited for the opportunity with the Kraken.

“Everyone here knows what they’re doing,” Wisdom said. “I’ve been lucky to be around some great people throughout my journey.”

Kraken commentator Everett Fitzhugh is also excited to what Wisdom can do on the ice.

“He’s a heady kid, he knows the game really well,” Fitzhugh said. “For me, I’m going to be looking pretty close at Zack and seeing how he does.”

Check out the video to hear from Wisdom and Fitzhugh, and make sure to tune into #Back2Besa every Saturday at 10:30 pm on FOX 13 Seattle and Sunday at 10 am on FOX 13+ for more great stories.
