Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream Celebrates New Waterfront Location with Community and Partners
Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream celebrated the grand opening of its new waterfront shop this summer, marking a major landmark on Seattle’s new Waterfront Park. The event brought together founder and CEO Molly Moon Neitzel, her dedicated team, and a host of local partners who contribute to the beloved ice cream's unique flavors.
Neitzel expressed her long-standing vision for the new location. "I've been really excited about downtown Seattle taking down the viaduct and opening up to the gorgeous Puget Sound and Elliot Bay,” she said, emphasizing the importance of building a space on the Waterfront for all of Seattle to come enjoy. The owner expressed gratitude to officially be a part of the renovation, explaining that the new shop aligns with the Waterfront’s mission to create multi-generational community gathering places.
The grand opening highlighted the strong local connections Molly Moon's has fostered since first opening in 2008. Alex Thieman, owner of Lopez Island Creamery, shared pride in his partnership with Molly Moon’s: "We are so proud to be working with Molly Moon... they're such a wonderful name in the Washington area to be associated with," he said, explaining that Lopez Creamery pasteurizes cream to make Molly Moon’s ice cream base.
Jordan Schiefen, owner of Jardin du Soleil Lavender Farm, celebrated their eight-year collaboration with the ice cream store. "It's really fun to be here and actually try the ice cream that our lavender is in," she said, highlighting the importance of local partnerships. "Without local producers like [Molly Moons] using our local product, it really doesn't go anywhere."
Molly Moon's commitment to its employees was also a key theme. Louisa Greenaway, Director of Hospitality Operations at the company celebrated her eight-year anniversary with the company, having originally started as a shop manager. Neitzel proudly stated that the company is a living wage certified organization, meaning Molly Moon’s provides sustainable pay, benefits, and free healthcare insurance for employees and their kids. “When we take care of the Moon Crew, they are definitely going to take care of our customers,” she said.
The new Molly Moon’s Waterfront location has established itself as a significant addition to the community, and an anchor of the reconstructed Waterfront Park. As a company and a landmark, Molly Moon’s represents the togetherness and community that defines what makes the Waterfront Park special.
