ARTE NOIR's newest flagship exhibition, Central District Legacy: Black. Power. Black Panthers., is now open in Seattle's Midtown Square. This powerful exhibit honors the Seattle Chapter of the Black Panther Party—the very first chapter established outside of California in the spring of 1968.
The exhibition highlights the Panthers' enduring blueprint of community justice, mutual aid, and self-determination in the historic Central District. This legacy includes the impacts of the Children’s Free Breakfast Program and the establishment of the Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center.
Contemporary Black artists bring this history into the present through mixed media, striking portraiture, and deep symbolism, collectively building a narrative around youth solidarity and the enduring charge of the raised Black Power fist.
Don't miss the chance to experience this living history. The exhibit runs from May 6, 2026, to August 2, 2026, at the ARTE NOIR Gallery (2301 E. Union Street, Suite H, Seattle, WA). Gallery hours are Wednesday–Saturday: 11 AM – 7 PM and Sunday: 12 PM – 6 PM.
Featured artists include Charles Conner, Thadeus Hunnicutt, Tasanee Durrett, Ed-Lamarr Petion, Achille “A.J.” Barbel, Jon Brick, Serron Green, Tafy LaPlanche, and Crystal Noir.
