PNB’s NEXT STEP: Witness the Future of Seattle Dance in an Unmissable Choreography Showcase
Pacific Northwest Ballet’s annual choreographers’ showcase, NEXT STEP, returns in May for three performances only, establishing its role as a laboratory for movement exploration and discovery in Seattle.
This highly anticipated showcase features the stars of tomorrow meeting today's choreographic innovators, presenting six premieres created by seven PNB company dancers, including Luther DeMyer, Ashton Edwards, Zsilas Michael Hughes, and Leah Terada.
PNB School’s highly skilled Professional Division student dancers—young artists just one step away from launching their professional careers—will set these original danceworks on stage today.
Artistic Director Peter Boal conceived NEXT STEP to develop emerging choreographic talent, offering company dancers the support and studio space needed to hone their craft and advance their art. This unique opportunity is designed to have a substantial, long-term impact on a dancer's career.
The program features a diverse line-up, including Hughes’s contemporary lyrical piece PUSH, which uses an original soundscape to celebrate a triumphant victory, demanding the dancers show grit and known strength. Terada’s from colors of sun and steel explores patterns of human connection across overlapping “timelines”, while DeMyer’s historically inspired For the end of time draws influence from music written during World War II and the art of Käthe Kollwitz.
This showcase will run for only three performances at The Phelps Center at Seattle Center: Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.. Seating is limited for this general admission event. With tickets available for only $25 (tax and fees inclusive), this is a must-see opportunity to witness the next step in Pacific Northwest dance.
Secure your tickets through the PNB Box Office at 206.441.2424 or purchase them online at pnb.org.
