PREVIEW This Week’s Episode of Back2Besa: A Joyride Around Besa’s Favorites South of Seattle but North of Tacoma

Back2Besa is back with a throwback episode highlighting Besa’s favorite spots south of Seattle but North of Tacoma. This episode of Back2Besa takes viewers on a tour of incredible Black business like Moe Vegan, Curl Garden, the Trap Lab, and more through Kent, Fife, Milton, and everything in between.

Moe Vegan in Kent, Washington

With owner Kae Hart at the helm, Moe Vegan has made its name as one of the best vegan restaurants in the greater Seattle area. With customers dubbing his food as “vegan crack,” Hart has mastered the sweet spot between delicious flavor and sustainable vegan ingredients and substitutes, with some of Besa’s favorites like the vegan burgers and pasta. From handing out free tastes at his food truck to convince skeptical customers to opening his own brick-and-mortar earlier this year, Hart’s upward trajectory, passionate spirit, and undeniable craftsmanship makes Moe Vegan a must-visit next time your passing between Seattle and Tacoma.

The Trap Lab in Federal Way

The energy is legitimately unmatched at the Trap Lab, Federal Way’s very own fitness studio that goes above and beyond. Sisters Icea Pettigrew and Sharde Bullard went on a mission in creating a judgement-free space where the community can pull up to exercise or join a dance class in a comfortable and empowering environment. I mean, take a look at those women getting it on! It is a testament to the Trap Lab’s ability to cultivate culturally necessary ambience to take a breath and a break from life’s issues, and have a little fun!

The Curl Garden in Milton

Next up, Besa hits up Sabrina Gray, owner of the Curl Garden in Milton where hair care and beauty are combined with a deep understanding of mental health and wellness. As she went on her own journey in self-advocacy in growing her business, Gray honed her skills through the Barber and Beauty Shop Behavioral Health Project facilitated by the Northwest Credible Messengers as part of the Community Reinvestment Project from the Washington State Department of Commerce. This project, as well as Gray’s initial mission, aims to thwart the looming mental health crisis and leave people looking better, feeling better, and being better.
