Rudd’s R.U.B.B. Initiative Marks 5-Year Milestone with Annual Black Business Leadership Conference
This August, Seattle’s entrepreneurial community gathers once again for the 5th Annual Black Business Leadership Conference (BBLC). Hosted by the R.U.B.B. (Raising Up Black Businesses) Initiative, the event marks a significant milestone in the effort to strengthen Black-owned businesses through education, mentorship, and strategic partnership.
Scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the University of Washington South Hub, this year’s conference is titled "Built to Last: The Blueprint for Sustainable Black Businesses." Since its inception, the initiative, founded by Ezell’s Famous Chicken co-founder Lewis Rudd, has been dedicated to creating an environment where business owners don't just find inspiration for a single day, but leave with practical, implementable strategies for long-term growth.
The conference features a high-profile lineup of speakers and leaders aimed at equipping entrepreneurs with the tools needed for modern operations. Jordan Babineaux, a leadership strategist, executive coach, and former NFL player, will deliver the opening keynote. He intends to share his "P.I.V.O.T." leadership framework to help attendees navigate change, strengthen decision-making, and build high-performing teams.
The event also bridges the gap between private enterprise and public policy. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is confirmed to participate, and City Council President Joy Hollingsworth will join a featured Civic and Economic Leadership Panel to examine how public policy, investment, and collaboration can expand opportunities for regional businesses.
Attendees can expect a day focused on five core pillars: Foundation, Structure, Sustainability, Visibility, and Legacy. From exploring the role of artificial intelligence in modernizing operations to practical sessions on capital access, procurement, and cybersecurity, the BBLC is designed to be an implementation-focused experience.
