SABJ Black Voices Matter Showcase To Preview Angela Poe Russell's ‘Aviatrix’

Veteran journalist and genre-bending talent Angela Poe Russell is set to headline the annual SABJ Black Voices Matter Showcase, offering the community an exclusive preview of her original musical, “Aviatrix.”

Russell has transformed history into a powerful, compelling narrative that unveils the hidden legacy of aviation pioneer Bessie Coleman, celebrating a Black and Native American trailblazer whose story demands to be told and preserved. This performance will bring Coleman's inspiring life and enduring legacy to the stage of the Northwest African American Museum.

Hosted by KOMO reporter Tyrah Majors, this one-of-a-kind event is designed to demonstrate the immense power of the performing arts as a tool for journalism—a platform capable of piercing the wall of cynicism and reviving the essential quest for truth. Through the compelling combination of storytelling and music, the showcase promises an evening of deep exploration into curiosity, empathy, and truth-telling.

Attendees at the Northwest African American Museum will get an early look at the musical before its full debut this spring at Seattle Public Theatre. Converge Media encourages the community to secure tickets now and support this special evening, as all proceeds benefit the Patricia Fisher Endowed Scholarship.
