Seattle Basketball Weekend Returns: Hoops, History, and Community Empowerment Take Over the Waterfront

Seattle's waterfront is set to transform into the ultimate hub for athletic excellence and community spirit this summer. Seattle Basketball Weekend returns from July 31 to August 2, 2026, as a celebration of community, health, and mentorship.

Hosted by former NBA All-Star and Seattle icon Brandon Roy, this three-day festival brings the Rise Above 3x3 Youth Hoops Tournament to Pier 58 and Pier 62, creating a vibrant space where sports meets leadership.

The weekend is packed with action, kicking off on Friday with Hoops on the Pier. This free community festival sets the tone with youth skills clinics, mentorship opportunities, and essential health and wellness resources, all rounded out by engaging family-oriented activities. It’s about more than just the game; it’s about investing in the well-being of the next generation.

On Saturday and Sunday, the waterfront truly comes alive with the core of the event: the Seattle 3x3 Youth Tournament. With teams competing across 10 waterfront courts, the energy will be electric, complemented by interactive programming from community partners. A major highlight of Saturday afternoon is the 3x3 Media & Influencer Tournament, taking place from 2–3 PM at Pier 62. Hosted by KJR Sports Radio 93.3 and the legendary Kevin Calabro, this segment brings a high-profile competitive edge to the festivities.

The celebration of basketball legacy extends beyond the court on Saturday evening. The historic Egyptian Theater on Capitol Hill will host the premiere of CORNERSTONE, The Lenny Wilkens Story. Produced by Slow Grind Media and presented by Mercurys Coffee Co. and Rise Above, the documentary honors the profound life and legacy of the late NBA Hall of Famer.

This landmark gathering is a true "who"s who" of basketball royalty. Throughout the weekend, attendees can expect appearances by an incredible lineup of legends, including George Karl, Nate McMillan, Jack Sikma, Fred Brown, Dale Ellis, Vin Baker, Ruthie Bolton, Carla McGhee, and Brandon Roy himself. These icons are showing up to inspire the youth and celebrate Seattle’s rich basketball culture.

Driven by a mission of community impact, the event is presented by Rise Above in partnership with One Roof Sports & Entertainment, Seattle Parks & Recreation, and Amazon. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to youth development, wellness, and creating pathways for young people to connect with mentors.

Participation in the tournament is completely free for youth aged 9–18. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this historic waterfront takeover. Visit nativeyouthriseabove.org to register and find more details.
