As Taproot Theatre celebrates its 50th season this year, what better time to make your way to the Jewell Mainstage Theatre in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood for the swinging production Ain’t Misbehavin’? This exuberant, Tony Award-winning tribute to Black artistry is an essential part of our 50th Anniversary lineup, which features the timeless story of jazz legend Fats Waller.
Directed by Bretteney Beverly as a tribute to Black artistry, the show transforms Taproot's intimate stage into a pulsing nightclub featuring exclusive, interactive cabaret seating. In a recent press release, Beverly called the musical revue an electrifying blend of "sly humor, lush vocals, and swinging rhythms into a night of pure theatrical joy," guaranteeing that audiences will be transported directly into the heart of the era's sound and spirit.

The energy flows from a five-person cast and band who invite the audience into the jazzy world of Fats Waller through nearly 30 of his defining hits, including "Honeysuckle Rose" and "I Can't Give You Anything but Love."
The talented performers embody the Harlem scene, with Yusef Seevers playing the loud and larger-than-life Ken, Chandler Thomas as the flirty Andre, Alexandria Henderson as the sweet Charlaine, Erica Walker as the knowledgeable Nell, and Sarah Russell as the strong-willed Armelia. This two-hour celebration of Black excellence and musical legacy is a must-see for the community.
This momentous 50th season, which was built with the Taproot community in mind, celebrates the artists, audiences, and stories that have shaped the amazing theatre company for five decades. Don't miss your chance to celebrate the 50th season with this unforgettable show!
