The Garfield Super Block Public Art Academy

“The Garfield Super Block is the town hall of the Central District.” - Takiyah “TDUB” Ward.

The Garfield Super Block Public Art Academy is a unique public arts program that is supporting community and legacy. Learn about the program and what they are doing in the video above.

“We had this thing that came along called gentrification, and it mainly erased the history of the Black community,” Robert Stephens Jr., member of the Garfield Coalition, said. “It’s important that our kids and the new people who move here know that this community didn’t just appear.”

The workshops featured speakers, professionals, classes and more as community members came out to get inspired and create artwork. Our Takiyah TDUB Ward was at the event as well as serving as one of the lead art consultants.

“The heart of this project is public art that tells the story of the Central Area and how it grew,” member of the Garfield Coalition Sharon Khosla said. “Today is an offering to the community to help make the art in this project the best it can be.”
