'Water For Elephants' Brings High-Flying Spectacle and Heart to Seattle's Paramount Theatre This October
The magic of the big top is officially headed to the Pacific Northwest. Premera Blue Cross Broadway at The Paramount, presented by Seattle Theatre Group, has announced that the critically acclaimed Broadway musical Water For Elephants will make its Seattle debut at the historic Paramount Theatre from October 6 through October 11.
A Journey of Resilience, Renewal, and Reinvention
Based on Sara Gruen’s New York Times best-selling novel, Water For Elephants tells the story of a young man who, after enduring overwhelming personal loss, leaps onto a moving train and finds belonging among the crew of a traveling circus. Frame-narrated through the reflective eyes of his older self, the musical explores themes of unexpected love, second chances, and the enduring strength of community across life’s many chapters.
Hailed as a New York Times Critic’s Pick during its Broadway run at the Imperial Theatre, the production earned wide praise for its seamless fusion of storytelling and breathtaking athleticism. The New York Times described the show as "huge," "heart-filling," and "emotionally vivid."
The show’s groundbreaking puppetry, designed by Ray Wetmore, JR Goodman, and Camille Labarre with puppet direction by Joshua Holden, brings the story's animal characters to life on stage with emotional nuance.
Acclaimed Honors
The Broadway production earned widespread industry recognition, securing Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Direction of a Musical (Jessica Stone), Outstanding Sound Design (Walter Trarbach), Outstanding Fight Choreography (Cha Ramos), and Outstanding Puppetry, along with the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Director and the Chita Rivera Award for Outstanding Choreography.
