Host Alicia Crank recently welcomed sports content creator Michaela, better known as “Your Stadium Bestie,” for a conversation on Michaela’s journey from corporate marketing professional to one of the Pacific Northwest’s most popular digital sports creators.
Pivoting from Tech Marketing to Digital Storytelling
Michaela, who earned her degree from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, spent over a decade in corporate health insurance marketing before transitioning into the tech sector. However, her background in corporate branding seamlessly translated into digital sports content creation.
Explaining the foundation of her platform, Michaela outlined her guiding philosophy of prioritizing fan utility over personal vanity.
"My goal is always to make what I call selfless content,” she said. “So, do I have a cute outfit? Yeah, of course. But how is this helpful to someone else? How is this providing some sort of knowledge, benefit, whatever the case may be?"
Her account grew organically after she realized she was constantly answering practical venue questions for her immediate circle of friends whenever they attended games.
Today, her insider concession reviews, navigation advice, and game-day coverage across venues like T-Mobile Park, Lumen Field, and Climate Pledge Arena help both die-hard supporters and casual attendees get the most out of every outing.
Navigating Fan Experiences
Michaela noted that while her content began primarily around the Seattle Mariners due to their high volume of home games, her platform expanded to include the Seattle Kraken, Sounders FC, and UW Athletics by simply showing up and creating high-quality content independently.
When collaborating with professional sports franchises, Michaela stressed the importance of maintaining authenticity:
"Working with [the Kraken] was fantastic because they very much said, 'Be yourself,’” she said.
Building Community Behind the Scenes
When Crank asked for her advice for women looking to step into sports media or sports business, Michaela pointed to the necessity of fostering peer networks for strength and mutual support.
"I think the thing that's been the most helpful for me is building community behind the scenes,” she said. “Getting to know other content creators or women who are in sports or in the community is so helpful because we're all kind of going through the same thing, but we're also trying to help each other."
