Kyra joined Trae Holiday on The Day With Trae last week to discuss the work LRP is doing to uplift the Trans community in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, as well as challenges facing the community as a whole. 

It was a reunion in Tacoma as Evergreen State College’s Tacoma Campus hosted their homecoming event last weekend. The school welcomed back campus founder Maxine Mimms, former head Dr. Joye Hardiman, and current dean Dr. Marcia Tate Arunga.

The annual event brings artists together with the community to showcase their work and spread creative energy while celebrating the joy and beauty that is present within the Central District and beyond.

Converge Queens connected at Takiyah “TDUB” Ward’s soft opening of her brand new Re-Sole retail shop on E Union street as Trae Holiday joined her to speak about the milestone. The shop specializes in custom sneaker painting, dry-cleaning, and more and has become known as one of the top sneaker care shops in Seattle.

Last Monday, community members gathered to remember those we’ve lost during the City of Seattle and the Alliance for Gun Responsibility One Seattle Day of Remembrance event at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church on Capitol Hill in Seattle. It was a somber and reflective day featuring a memorial as well as a look at the work different organizations and individuals are doing throughout the community to end the epidemic of violence.

Our Community Queen Trae Holiday was part of the first ever Het Heru Healing Conference in Seattle, which brought spiritual leaders and healers to Langston Hughes to lead sessions and discuss their work.

Today on #TheDayWithTrae, @traeholiday sat down with TINA: The Tina Turner Cast Members Ari Groover (@ari_grooves) and Parris Lewis (@renaissancewoman_). They discussed their roles and experience with the show, as well as their thoughts on playing the legendary Tina Turner and capturing her essence on stage.

Our Community Queen @traeholiday was out at Tacoma’s Hilltop Street Fair, which features art, vendors, music and more. While there, she caught up with Black-owned businesses like Intentions Juice Bar (@intentionsjuicebar), Chain of Seasonings (@chainofseasonings) and more.

Welcome to A 4 Apple Learning Center. Our Trae Holiday stopped by to chat with Co-Owner and Teacher Appollonia Washington (Miss Apple) for #NationalBlackBusinessMonth to hear about the work being done at the center as she seeks to inspire the next generation through early learning and literacy.

On Friday, Deja’Nay Gilliam from the Seattle Parks and Recreation stopped by the Black Media Matters Studio to discuss the upcoming Big Day of Play on August 19th from 12 - 6 pm. The in-person activities will be held at Rainier Playfields and Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center and will feature fun for community members of all ages.

The Therapy Fund Foundation hosted their first annual reclaiming wellness event built to help the Black community build healthy self-care habits and discuss mental health challenges. Converge Media was a proud sponsor of the event at Green River College, which featured keynote speaker Dr. Uché Blackstock, the founder and CEO of Advancing Health Equity.

Community leader, activist and personality Deaunte Damper makes his return to Converge Media as he’s set to fill in for Trae Holiday next week on The Day With Trae. Damper is the host of We Live In Color (which is currently between seasons) on the Converge Media Network and brings with him his unique blend of empathy, humor and knowledge.

Special guest host Erik Kalligraphy sits down with Julie-C, the Co-Founder of Forever Safe Spaces, to talk about the monthly creative market place "On the Block" that happens in the heart of the Capitol Hill neighborhood every second Saturday through October.

Ra Un Nefer Amen, a distinguished spiritual teacher and author, joined The Day With Trae this morning to share his remarkable journey of spiritual exploration and the founding of the Ausar Auset Society. With over 50 years of existence and a presence in more than 30 cities worldwide, the Ausar Auset Society has become a beacon of spiritual guidance and community support.

The Liberated Village Arts and Education Festival takes place on May 13th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Alan T. Sugiyama High School. The event will feature about 20 organizations which have been funded by King County through a million-dollar initiative, and will aim to educate and empower Black and Brown youth of all ages, primarily middle school and high school students.

Billy Porter’s full interview with Trae Holiday will air on The Day With Trae on Monday morning at 11:00 am as Trae returns to the studio. They’ll discuss his career as well as his upcoming Black Mona Lisa: Vol. 1 tour, which will take him to 25 cities and kicks off at The Paramount here in Seattle on April 29th.

Cal Bonner took interest in art at a young age. Fascinated by his friend's arts, he had to trace them as a form of practice. "My friend was a good artist; he drew, and I was tracing art," said Bonner.

His friend encouraged him to start drawing by himself. "He said you've got to draw something for real, and so he made me draw on the spot in front of him, and then that's when I learned that this is something different," Bonner said.
