Black Family in Renton Demands Reparations From Renton School District: Part 1
“Behind us is the land that we owned,” said John Houston, as he pointed at a neighborhood in the Highlands in Renton.
This is not how he and the Houston family members expected their lives to turn out.
“It was swampy land, but it was home, land owned by my parents,” said Houston, who is almost 70 years old. “It’s kind of heartbreaking to see it now, and realize the dreams that my parents had.”

Jay Martin Jr featured in Greet Kirkland, 425 Magazines
Host of The Drive Project Podcast on the Converge Media Network and National PBS Host Jay Martin Jr. was recently featured on the cover of Greet Kirkland Magazine. He also had a feature story about his fashion sense appear in 425 Magazine. Martin says that being able to share his story on an even broader scale is something he’s been striving for his entire career and he’s very grateful for the opportunity.
Last rodeo: Kraken fail to generate enough offense in game seven loss to Stars
In game seven of their second round Stanley Cup Playoffs matchup against the Dallas Stars, the Seattle Kraken failed to generate enough offense and couldn’t beat Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger until too late, wasting an all-time performance by Philipp Grubauer in net. Seattle’s second season ends in heartbreaking fashion, just minutes away from a Western Conference Finals berth.
#SaveSankofa - Sankofa Theater to host two fundraisers to raise money for a new lease
The Sankofa Theater is hosting two fundraising parties - one on May 20th and one on May 28th. The funds will go towards securing a new lease for the Black Woman-owned theater which provides space for the arts within Seattle's Black community.

In a do or die game six back in their home of Climate Pledge Arena, the Seattle Kraken got out to a hot start and were able to sustain that pressure to secure a victory and force a game seven in their second round Stanley Cup Playoffs matchup. The Seattle Kraken dropped a second consecutive game in this second round Stanley Cup Playoff series, as the Dallas Stars once again used a hot start to give them just enough cushion to sustain a Kraken comeback attempt. Seattle now has their back against the wall for the first time since game seven of their series against the Avalanche.
Homestand highs and lows: Texas two-step to an even homestand
In the third homestand of the 2023 season, the Seattle Mariners hosted the two Texas based teams at T-Mobile Park for a somewhat brief stretch. It was an even split of the six games, with the Mariners getting an impressive series win over the Astros while narrowly losing the series to the Rangers.

Mariners shutout big Rangers bats behind Kirby’s K’s
The Mariners were able to shutout the hot bats of the Rangers, collecting a victory behind starting pitcher George Kirby's strong performance. Kirby went seven scoreless innings, while the Seattle bats were able to push five runs across the plate including Tom Murphy's two-run blast.
Stars give Kraken a taste of their own medicine with blast of offense to tie series
The Seattle Kraken suffered a game four loss to the Dallas Stars, as the visiting team brough the fight to Seattle and tallied a four goal second period. Seattle’s Jaden Schwartz tallied two goal and did his best to try and push his team back into the game, but Dallas was able to extend their lead with an empty net goal and send the series back to Texas tied.

New-era Storm show out early, can’t play full effort in preseason loss to Mercury
The Seattle Storm dropped their first preseason contest ahead of the 2023 regular season, as several of the Storm players were able to contribute to a strong first half. The second half saw things crumble in the third period, and it was all Mercury from there.
Mariners drop game one to Rangers despite Gilbert’s hot start
The Seattle Mariners, fresh off of a big series win against the Houston Astros, once again failed their starting pitcher as they only plated one for Logan Gilbert to drop game one. Ty France’s early solo homer got things going early, and Gilbert pitched an excellent game, but the mariners bats couldn’t get it done the rest of the way.

In game three of the second round Stanley Cup Playoffs matchup, the Seattle Kraken blew out the Dallas Stars by a score of 7-2 with five of those goals coming in the second period. Continued strong play by Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer and the Seattle defenseman kept the Stars at bay, while the Kraken skaters tore through Dallas.
Sounders can’t get out of their own way as Sporting KC collects first victory on season
The Seattle Sounders dropped their first match at home and fell to a Sporting KC club that had not won a game yet in MLS Regular season play. Kansas City had sat at the bottom of the Western Conference, but they were able to jump out to a two goal lead in the first half.
