Seattle Mariners fans lined up early Friday morning in front of Marination restaurant in Columbia City.
Many of them showed up long before the restaurant even opened, all to see and meet Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, who was there to promote Bloodworks Northwest efforts to boost blood donations.

This project is part of MLB’s #LegacyFields Legacy Initiative, which seeks to create lasting impact within All-Star host cities.

Like every year, the derby was a great opportunity to see some of the young and bright stars of the game showcase their power, with a few surprises mixed into this years event.

HBCU Swingman Classic Brings Black Joy, HBCU Baseball to Seattle
It was a historic day in the Emerald City as the first-ever Swingman Classic took over T-Mobile park on Friday and brought Seattle’s Black community to the stadium for a celebration of Black joy, baseball, and HBCUs. The game brought 50 of the best HBCU baseball players from around the country to Seattle to showcase their talents, while an HBCU college fair took place in the concourse.

In their third battle this season with the New York Liberty, the Seattle Storm once again fought hard all game long in a valiant attempt to upset one of the top teams in the WNBA, but ultimately could not get the closing moments late to go in their favor, partially in part to the fact that Jewell Loyd missed most of the quarter with a left ankle sprain.

In the Celebrity Softball game during MLB All-Star Saturday, it was the stars that hailed from Seattle who shone the brightest. During the second event of the day at T-Mobile Park, there was plenty of offense to witness, with some bad defense and fun moments mixed in.
