On Friday, Deja’Nay Gilliam from the Seattle Parks and Recreation stopped by the Black Media Matters Studio to discuss the upcoming Big Day of Play on August 19th from 12 - 6 pm. The in-person activities will be held at Rainier Playfields and Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center and will feature fun for community members of all ages.

Besa Gordon checked in with Rudd and Salt & Straw Co-Founder Tyler Malek to hear about the process behind the unique Cinnamon and Chicken flavor and what went into its creation.

On Wednesday, students from Rainier Avenue Radio’s Creative Arts Digital Media Academy visited our #BlackMediaMatters Studio. While there, they met with Back2Besa host Besa Gordon to hear about the importance of Black media as well as learn what it takes to be a media professional. They also got to hold Converge’s Emmy Award and sign the studio wall.

The Garfield Super Block is located in Seattle's Central District and is shared by Medgar Evers Pool, play fields, Teen Life Center, and a community center, all owned and operated by Seattle Parks & Recreation and Garfield High School. The site boundaries are Cherry Street to the north, 23rd Avenue to the west, 25th Avenue to the east, and Alder Street to the south. The area is mainly residential in character along 25th and Alder, with mixed commercial uses at Cherry and 23rd Avenue.

The Seattle Storm completed a season sweep of the Phoenix Mercury, using a strong first half to gain a lead before needing to close out in the fourth quarter to earn their fifth win across the last seven games. Seattle had Jewell Loyd back to form, while Ezi Magbegor impressed alongside her.

The Seattle Mariners dropped the series to the Baltimore Orioles with a loss in today's rubber match, snapping a streak of eight consecutive series wins. Seattle put up a great fight against the best team in the American League, and should've come away with a sweep had their offense clicked.

The Seattle Mariners saw their 8-game winning streak come to an end, in a 1-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles that saw George Kirby put on a pitching performance that seemed to tribute Felix Hernandez on the day he was inducted into the teams Hall Of Fame.

The 11th member of the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame has been inducted. Beloved right-hander Félix Hernández has been immortalized once again, taking his place amongst Mariners greats.

To begin a weekend honoring The King and to open a series against the Baltimore Orioles, the Seattle Mariners extended their winning streak to eight games with a blowout victory and result of 9-2. With their victory over the Orioles, the best team in the American League, Seattle is now just half a game out of the third Wild Card spot.

It was an emotional return to the Rainier Beach Safeway for the Boys and Girls Club of King County team that was present during a shooting that wounded five people nearly two weeks ago. The group’s leader addressed the community and media for the first time since the shooting.

Exclusive is a Black-women owned clothing boutique located on East Union Street in the heart of Seattle’s Central District. Their mission is to bring fashion to the community, making everyone feel free to express themselves through their clothing choices.

The South Sound community now has their own festival celebrating culture, music, and entrepreneurship. The South Sound Music Festival, which began last year, brings good music and festival vibes to the Tacoma area.

The Tacoma Defiance continue to roll, as forward Braudilio Rodrigues tallied a hat trick to down Sporting KC II at Starfire Stadium. Despite seeing a red card in this match, the Defiance secured three points and continue to have a strong 2023 campaign in MLS Next Pro.

The Seattle Mariners got a five-game homestand started off the right way, beating the San Diego Padres in the first of a two game series. Starting pitcher Logan Gilbert delivered a masterclass as he went seven scoreless innings, not walking any batters and only giving up one hit.

The Seattle Storm began a four-game homestand with a tough loss to the Connecticut Sun, as a rough second quarter was a big factor while Seattle lost Gabby Williams to a foot injury during that frame.
