Making Boss Moves Hosts Annual Seattle Summit to Empower Black Women

The Making Boss Moves Foundation, led by founders Marquinta Obomanu and Colina Bruce, recently hosted its annual summit at Byrd Barr Place in Seattle's historic Central District. The event gathered nearly 100 women for a transformative day focused on leadership, community building, and economic empowerment. What began in 2023 as an elevated happy hour experience has rapidly evolved into a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting Black women in their personal and professional lives.

Throughout the event, attendees participated in interactive breakout sessions known as the "Boss Moves Lab" to provide actionable tools across personal, professional, and community-driven spheres. Speakers and organizers emphasized the importance of overcoming impostor syndrome, celebrating daily achievements, and fostering strategic economic support through intentional spending with Black women–owned small businesses.

"I hope that women really are able to look inside and believe in themselves," featured speaker and KBB By Kahlana owner Kahlana Barfield Brown said.

Looking toward the future, Making Boss Moves aims to expand the foundation's reach and continue creating supportive spaces where Black women can validate their value. The foundation’s leadership encourages broader community involvement and allyship to help sustain and amplify the movement's impact for years to come.
