Sync Seattle Mixer: Building Black Community and Intentional Connections

In 2023, Back2Besa host Besa Gordon checked out a monthly Sync Seattle Mixer at Still Liquor. The event was dedicated to creating space for Seattle’s Black community, highlighting Black businesses and non-profits, and fostering meaningful social connections.

The mixer's foundational principle is community building, a mission co-founder Tanise Love highlighted by simply inviting those looking for something to do to join the gathering.

“We turn up and have fun, but it’s all intentional,” Love said. “Our whole goal is to make sure that you know what’s actually happening in Seattle.”

The spirit of Sync Seattle is one of radical welcome, with Love stressing that the most important thing people can do is "come as they are." Whether a guest is seeking a business connection, love, or simply a space of acceptance, the mixer is designed to accommodate.

Co-Founder Derrick Love summarized this sentiment, stating that the founders want the event to feel like a "home away from home.”

“We have this platform that matters to us, and we want people to feel like they matter,” Derrick Love said.
