Thanksgiving 2021: The Queens of Converge Take On Belize

In honor of World Tourism Day yesterday, we’re taking a look back at Takiyah “TDub” Ward’s awe-inspiring trip to Belize with her fellow Queens of Converge over Thanksgiving in 2021 courtesy of Alaska Airlines and Travel Belize. Joined by Besa Gordon , Trae Holiday, and Julia Jessie, the journey was a chance to gain new perspective on the power of art, culture, and sisterhood in a country overflowing with life and history.

While the four women developed their own individual relationships with art and culture, they forged a powerful sisterhood on their shared adventures. From venturing through ancient Maya cities and lush rainforests to immersing themselves in new cultural experiences, the Queens of Converge epitomize the incredible bonds built through shared travel and experience.

One of the most memorable moments of the trip was meeting the renowned artist Pen Cayetano. His studio, a rich collection of colorful paintings, sculptures, and musical instruments, vividly narrated the story of Garifuna culture. Pen imparted invaluable lessons to Takiyah about the profound ability for art to bridge cultures and celebrate the beauty of the human experience.

The Queens of Converge trip to Belize was much more than a vacation; it was a life-changing opportunity for the women to learn, grow, and connect deeply with each other and the inspirational Garifuna culture. Their expanded perspectives are a testament to the importance of cultural immersion and leading with openness and gratitude.
