The BIPOC Health & Wellness Fair Makes Accessible Paths Toward Quality Healthcare
Last year, Besa Gordon visited the second annual BIPOC Health & Wellness Fair at the East Side Community Center in Tacoma, produced by Abundance Health LLC. The fair was conceptualized as a one-stop shop designed to bring essential health and wellness services to King, Pierce, and surrounding counties.
Attendees could access various services, including blood pressure checks, testing for HIV, AIDS, and STIs, and free food, alongside visiting numerous vendors and participating in panels focused on community support and self-care. The fair was founded in 2023 by Tamica Gant, the founder of Abundance Health LLC, who felt compelled to act after recognizing a significant lack of medical, nutritional, educational, and financial resources on the east side of Tacoma.
Instead of remaining passive, Gant aimed to be a community asset by organizing the event to give back on a larger scale. The fair featured over 60 vendors, encouraging attendees to explore a wide range of services they might not typically access, while simultaneously working to facilitate economic change in the underserved yet diverse East Side community.
