Poet Rajnii Eddings Hosts Reading At Taswira In Seattle

One of Seattle’s most iconic poets hosted a book reading and signing event at African Streetwear Gallery TASWIRA last week. Rajnii Eddins, founder of The Poetry Experience, shared words from his book ‘In The Coded Language Of This Mortal Tongue’ amongst an audience of artists, friends, and fans. The event showcased the power of his words alongside live instrumental performances.

“Today we’re having a blessing of performance here at the wonderful Taswira,” Eddins said.

There was also a Q&A session with Eddins along with a wine bar and light snacks. It followed a youth workshop Eddins hosted at TASWIRA earlier in the day.

“We gathered about 26 students, and now we’re opening up to the community,” Eddins said. “A lot of my work is centered around celebrating Black people while finding ways to sensitize human beings across the spectrum to the value of shared humanity.”

For Barnes, bringing Eddins into the space was a valuable moment to both her and her mission.

“I’m so happy to be collaborating with individuals on an event titled ‘value of our stories’,” Barnes said. “I think that what I display visually is what Rajnii tells through his writing.”South African Artist Lele Msibi was present to showcase her work, which is currently on display at TASWIRA. For Msibi, it was a major step in her life.

“I’ve been an artist my whole life, but I just became a full time artist. I recently decided it’s time to put myself out there. This is my first time having my art in such a public space,” Msibi said.

South African author and media personality Abby Plaatjes was in awe of Msibi’s work.

“She told me it took her over 2,000 hours to do it. Her time and her effort is one thing, but to see her mind and what it translates to on paper is something she should be truly proud of,” Plaatjes said.

It was a powerful night showcasing an author who continues to make an impact in the community. You can find out more on his website rajniieddins.com and you can visit TASWIRA at 510 Occidental Avenue South Seattle, WA 98104
