Blueprint Brunch: Bringing Community, Healing & Real Solutions to Seattle
In a time when community feels more digital than ever, Melvin Slaughter is inviting 100 changemakers to come together, break bread, and build something deeper: real-time, face-to-face healing and action.
Happening Sunday, July 27 in Downtown Seattle, the Blueprint Brunch: Solutions for Seattle is not just a gathering—it’s a movement. Curated by Slaughter and his team at Proper Management Consulting, the event aims to highlight community leaders, elevate grassroots solutions, and connect people who are doing the work to transform Seattle for the better.
“This brunch is all about getting back to community,” Slaughter shared in our interview on Almost The Weekend. “There’s just something powerful about showing up in real life, sitting down, and being seen. You can’t replace that kind of energy with a social media post.”
More Than a Meal
While brunch is definitely on the menu—thanks to community partners like Catfish Corner—this isn’t your average mid-day bite. Expect soul food favorites like chicken and waffles, fruit, pancakes, and a mocktail bar with coffee and tea. But the true nourishment will come from conversations that matter.
“This is a healing space,” said Slaughter. “No alcohol, no party vibe. Just a safe space for families, youth, and anyone who needs to connect, share their load, and get some fuel to keep going.”
Real Conversations, Real Change
Hosted by Deaunte Damper and featuring music by DJ Kun Luv, the event will also include an open-format panel and Q&A with Seattle City Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth. The focus? Solutions.
“We’re talking gun violence, re-entry, youth support, education, relationships—all of it,” Slaughter said. “This isn’t just about venting frustrations. We want to leave with ideas that can turn into action, whether that’s community-based programs or legislative solutions.”
He also emphasized the importance of centering re-entry support, sharing his own experience and passion for helping people transition back into community life after incarceration. “Everyone coming home has different needs. Some need mental health support, others want to start a business or go back to school. We’re here to help people meet those goals, build relationships, and reintegrate with confidence.”
Giving Flowers, Building Blueprints
One of the key purposes of the event is honoring those who’ve been doing the work.
“We’re highlighting and awarding folks who’ve already created the blueprint,” Slaughter explained. “So many organizations go unrecognized. They’ve sacrificed time, energy, and even their own health for the community. We want to say: We see you, and we appreciate you.”
While he’s keeping the full list of honorees under wraps until the brunch, attendees can expect heartfelt moments and inspiring stories from the frontlines of community leadership.
