6 Pride Month Events Happening In Seattle You Should Know About
Pride Month, celebrated every June, commemorates the Stonewall Riots of 1969, a pivotal event in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, sparking spontaneous protests and clashes that lasted for days. These events galvanized the LGBTQ+ community and ignited a broader movement for civil rights.
Pride Month Spotlight: Gina Brown
Gina Brown is a community organizer with the Southern AIDS Coalition. She has worked in the field of HIV for more than 15 years and has been living with HIV for more than 23 years. Gina graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern University at New Orleans, with a Bachelor of Social Work and a minor in History in 2011. She received her Master's degree in Social Work in 2012. Gina is a former member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA). Gina has served on numerous boards and committees. She currently serves on CrescentCare Health’s Board of Trustees.

Gladys Bentley (stage name, Bobbie Minton) was a Harlem Renaissance blues singer and cross dresser. She was one of the most well-known and financially successful black women in the United States in the 1920s and 1930s. She was a pioneer in pushing the envelope of gender, sexuality, class, and race with parody and exaggeration, personally and professionally.

They are the author of the New York Times Bestselling Young Adult memoir All Boys Aren’t Blue discussing their adolescence growing up as a young Black Queer boy in New Jersey through a series of powerful essays.
