Celebrating a Legend: The Slick Watts Basketball Empowerment Camp To Unite Rainier Beach
Seattle basketball legend Donald Earl "Slick" Watts remains a towering figure whose legacy extends far beyond the court. A symbol of heart, resilience, and deep community pride, Watts' spirit is set to be honored at a special community celebration: the Basketball Empowerment Camp, aptly titled "Thank You for the Love” on March 21, 2026 at the Rainier Beach Community Center.
This free, family-friendly event is a collaboration between Fathers and Sons Together (FAST) and the Watts Foundation, designed to bring the Rainier Beach community together through the unifying power of basketball, empowerment initiatives, and public safety engagement. It's a living dedication to the belief that community health is built on strong relationships and the upliftment of its youth.
Attendees can look forward to a basketball skills camp led by Watts Basketball, a warm-up session with Always Winning Fitness, and the emotional Slick Watts Legacy Award Ceremony. Critically, the event is all about building bridges, featuring Seattle Police Department officers playing basketball, serving meals, and engaging in open conversation.
