Converge Media Launches ‘The Pop-Up!’ with Host The Big O

Converge Media's fresh evening series, "The Pop-Up!", premiered on Monday with host The Big O and guests ProofNThePlay and Deaunte Damper. Designed as a spiritual successor to the "Morning Update Show," this limited-run series captures a relaxed atmosphere where community news and unscripted discussions regarding Seattle’s culture are brought to the forefront.

For the premiere episode, the guests discussed:

  • Seattle’s Black student literacy crisis, highlighting that 51% of Black students are in the "academic red zone" for reading.

  • The "Jersey Gate" incident involving Garfield High School's JV basketball team.

  • The legacy of Amarr Murphy-Paine and the upcoming Chalk & Talk event at Garfield High School on June 4.

  • Celebration of local Black-owned businesses, such as Black & Tan Hall

  • Deaunte Damper's historic  appointment as a Grand Marshal for Seattle Pride 2026.
