Couture Cocktails and Hunter in the Cup Showcase Mixology and Charcuterie in the Black Media Matters Studio
Black excellence and good vibes swarmed the Black Media Matters Studio last month when Couture Cocktails and Hunter in the Cup hosted a special Cocktails and Charcuterie Night. The event served as an intimate celebration of Black History Month, successfully combining high-end mixology and culinary art.
Couture Cocktails owner Ashaunti Martin-Smith demonstrated the evening's signature drink, the Couture Sour. She shared that the drink was her personal twist on the classic St. Louis mint julep by pioneer Black bartender Tom Bullock.
The precision and artistry involved in crafting what attendee and Back2Besa producer Paul Sanders termed "designer cocktails" were a key takeaway. Sanders was particularly impressed by the use of unique ingredients that elevated the drinks, such as fresh mint, dehydrated produce, and aquafaba.
On the charcuterie side, Gennell Hunter ensured the experience was fully cohesive, with all elements designed to pair well with the Couture Sour. She taught the class how to make intricate items, such as the zigzag flower kiwi and how to fill negative space.
Martin-Smith and Hunter praised the Black Media Matters Studio and its rich history and culture, which they said made it the perfect setting for celebrating Black excellence. Sanders highly recommended the experience as a premier networking opportunity for young Black professionals and creatives in Seattle, praising the studio as a perfect venue for intimate, high-quality events.
For those who missed the celebration, Martin-Smith and Hunter encouraged everyone to follow them on Instagram and watch for upcoming classes.
