Intiman Theatre Presents the Transformational New Musical ‘SHe Said’
Intiman Theatre is hosting an electric theatrical production “SHe Said,” running from Wednesday, January 14 to Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Seattle’s Erickson Theatre. The show is a deeply personal and transformational work written by Seattle’s own vocal dynamo, pianist, and songwriter, Jen Ayers.
With direction from Allison Narver, the musical is inspired by Ayers’ own family's journey, which began twelve years ago when her partner of over 25 years came out as transgender. This unexpected turn led to a journey of self-discovery, as individuals, as a couple, and as parents, and ultimately, to the creation of “SHe Said.” The production tackles the profound impact of gender identity and transition on a family, presenting an ageless love story that redefines what it means to love and be loved.
The theatrical experience is designed to be immersive, presented in the bold style of musicals like “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” The staging features a unique night club lounge setup, offering a blend of cabaret-style tables with cocktail service for patrons 21 and older, alongside traditional theater seating options available for all ages.
This atmosphere complements the compelling music, which is performed live by an all-star Seattle band. Ayers’ signature sound, a powerful blend of '70s soul/pop meets rock-n-roll with soaring vocals, takes center stage. Critics have praised Ayers, who also fronted the bands Honey Tongue and Fedora, for delivering "vocals with a passion and purpose" that are "unparalleled on the music scene today." Her background that includes singing the National Anthem at NBA/MLB games nationwide and performing with members of Heart, REM, and Pearl Jam cements “SHe Said” as a musically driven moment in theatre.
Ultimately, “SHe Said” is more than just a musical—it is a compelling, true story born from a moment of profound honesty and love. As told by Ayers and the cast of Seattle musicians, the show invites the audience to think differently about love, acceptance, and the enduring need for connection.
“SHe Said” runs from Wednesday, January 14 to Sunday, February 1, 2026 at the Erickson Theatre, 1425 Harvard Ave in Seattle.
