Navigating the Seasons of Life: Understanding Reproductive Mental Health with Kyla Care Therapy
Lindsey Williams, a licensed clinical social worker and founder of Kyla Care Therapy, joined host Trae Holiday on "The Day with Trae" to delve into the crucial, yet often overlooked, area of reproductive mental health.
Williams explained that her specialty, reproductive mental health, is comprehensive, covering everything from period to perimenopause. This focus extends beyond pregnancy to include issues like infertility, endometriosis, fibroids, and transitional challenges when becoming a parent, noting that these issues can affect both men and women.
When treating clients, Williams noted that a key challenge she sees is managing mood and dealing with the regular day-to-day. A top priority in her practice is building self-awareness, encouraging clients to engage in self-exploration through mood tracking and utilizing digital wellness tools, such as workbooks, before or alongside therapy.
Williams also shed light on the often-misunderstood phase of perimenopause, noting that the hormonal changes during this time are significant "brain changes" that can be amplified by existing life stress. She identified the common mental health symptoms she observes in this period.
"I think one of the top ones that I actually see is anger and high irritability,” she said. “Second one is depressive feelings... And then I would also say third... is anxiety."
Kyla Care Therapy offers individual therapy (short-term and long-term), digital wellness tools, and provider training to help other practitioners in the community better validate and address mental health concerns in this space.
