PREVIEW This Week’s Episode of Back2Besa: Birthday Wishes, Black Joy, and A Look Behind The Scenes

Back2Besa is back with a celebratory episode dedicated to Besa’s birthday. This week, we take a look back at some of Besa’s favorite stories from the past year, from Daddy Strollers Social Club to DEFY Wrestling in the Central District. We also take a trip across the bay to Vashon Island, made possible by King County Metro, for some tasty Southern food at Gravy. In addition, Besa sheds light on what goes on behind the scenes on the Back2Besa set at the FOX 13 Studio and reflects on her most recent trip around the sun.

Visiting Vashon Island Thanks to King County Metro

First up, Besa hopped on the King County Metro water taxi for a day trip to Vashon Island, where she was picked up on the other side by Chef Dre, owner of the Southern restaurant Gravy. Chef Dre served up some of his delicious food downtown and took Besa on a tour of his favorite island spots, including Vashon Island Baking Company.

Building Bonds With the Daddy Stroller Social Club

Next, Besa throws it back to the Daddy Stroller Social Club, a brotherhood of fathers looking to build deep bonds with each other and set the stage for the next generation of kids they are raising. Their story showcases the importance of creating the right communities for the people who need them, especially when they have an incredible impact on the youth and families in the Emerald City.

Bringing the Energy at the DEFY Wrestling Spirit Event

It wouldn’t be Besa’s birthday without featuring wrestling, one of her favorite things. Earlier this year, Besa was the ring announcer at DEFY Wrestling’s WC spirit event, where powerful women in wrestling brought electric energy and showcased their incredible strength and skills as entertainers at Washington Hall in Seattle’s Central District.

Reflecting Behind The Scenes At the FOX 13 Studio

As Besa’s most recent trip around the sun concludes, she reflected on the past year behind the scenes at the FOX 13 Studio with photographer Jordan Somers, producer Paul Sanders, and makeup artist Teme Wakoma. With the help of her incredible team, Besa learned to grow into who she was a little more, find groundedness and peace, and be inspired by the incredible community around her.

Encapsulating the Essence of Black Joy

Ending the week, we throw it back to when Besa and Darryl Foto joined forces to capture the true meaning of Black joy in the Pacific Northwest. Together, they  found that Black joy is endurance, resilience, building generational wealth one step at a time, and an unapologetic expression of culture and community.

Catch Back2Besa every Saturday at 10:30 p.m. on FOX 13 Seattle and Sundays at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on FOX 13+. Viewers can also stream episodes anytime on the FOX Local app.
