PREVIEW This Week’s Episode of Back2Besa: Cultural Preservation Meets Hip Hop and Southern Soul
Back2Besa is back with another weekend full of stories that highlight culture, community, and resilience across the Pacific Northwest. This episode of Back2Besa takes viewers on a journey through powerful calls to action, unimaginable resilience, and the bread and butter of culture that remind us why representation and connection matter.
Community Gardening and Coalition at Farm Fest
This episode kicks off with Besa’s visit to Farm Fest at Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands last weekend where she struck up conversation with local farmers, advocates, and even some animals along the way. From live music, food trucks, and a bike that makes you a smoothie, Farm Fest brought the community together over quality produce and gardening.
Expanding Opportunities At Enterprise Nexus
Next up, Back2Besa takes us to the first Enterprise Nexus event, where aspiring and beginning entrepreneurs came together for incredible mentorship, tough questions, and amazing resources to help catalyze their business journeys. Organized by WorkSource Seattle King County in partnership with the Seattle Public Library, Enterprise Nexus was more than a career fair; it was an opportunity to expand the local economy one business at a time.
Hip Hop Is Green Takes Over Cherry Street
We take a turn back to Besa’s old stomping grounds on Cherry Street, where Keith Tucker and company from Hip Hop Is Green took over with bars, beats, and a beautiful vision for our planet’s future. Hip Hop Is Green makes their mission impossible to ignore, educating the masses about sustainability and environmentalism using the deep culture of hip hop.
Chef Red Caters the NAACP State Area Conference Dinner
Up next, we take a trip to the NAACP Conference Dinner where Chef Red was serving up her signature Southern soul food with a twist. Winning the Northwest Gumbo Competition was just one part of her story, while the rest orbits around bringing community together over her signature fire and flavors.
Finally, Besa brings us south to Puyallup to hear the enlightening story of Braided and Dreaded, a hairstylist to military executives and high-profile clients from Mariners shortstop JP Crawford to Seattle City Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth. Owner Sharron Hayes tells her incredibly powerful story of sobriety and overcoming adversity while serving and preserving cultural authenticity one braid at a time.
