Music As Narratives: Our Stories Show To Take Over The Royal Room This Weekend
On a recent episode of “The Day With Trae,” Sheila Kay, founder of Inspirational Productions, shared exciting updates about her work, including an upcoming show tomorrow, Saturday, September 27th, and her company's mission with guest host Alicia Crank.
Kay's company, Inspirational Productions, focuses on inspiring and motivating people into finding what they are truly passionate about. "If you're not inspired, if you're not motivated, if you're not moved by something, you're not going to do anything,” she said. You can dream all day long, but unless you are inspired to put some feet behind it and do the work, it's not going to come to fruition." This philosophy is at the heart of her shows, which blend music, entertainment, and personal stories of overcoming adversity.
The upcoming “Our Stories” show, taking place this Saturday at The Royal Room, features a lineup of talented artists and speakers. La Tanya Horace, co-founder of Sisters Rock the Arts, will share her personal story and perform, along with Jamal “Roc Phizzle” Robinson of the group Lakeside. Britney Davis, a blind vocalist and songwriter, will perform songs from her new album, "Black Thunder," and share her life story through music.
"I'm extra excited about this show... because I know these people a little more personally,” Kay said. “I'm proud of them and I'm just excited to have them be a part of this. So it's more like family."
Telling her own story, Kay discussed her personal journey and how it led to the creation of Inspirational Productions. After experiencing a period of darkness following the COVID-19 pandemic, a car accident, and job loss, she found inspiration in the stories of people like Steve Harvey, Oprah, and Tyler Perry who overcame great obstacles to achieve great things. She recalled Oprah's statement, "Find what moves you and that will be your calling," which resonated deeply with her. This led to a stark realization: human beings' stories about overcoming great obstacles are what inspire her to work hard.
Kay believes these shows showcasing artists’ struggles and determination are crucial, especially with the current chaos in the country. "People are scared and people don't know what to do. But you need an outlet,” she said.
Kay emphasized the importance of vulnerability in sharing personal stories. She said, "It's incredibly courageous first of all to be willing to be vulnerable... I think the true calling of a leader is to be vulnerable and not worry about what people have to say." She highlighted how these true-life narratives inspire others to overcome their own challenges.
The upcoming “Our Stories” show is happening TOMORROW, Saturday, September 27 at 8PM. You can buy tickets at theroyalroomseattle.com. In addition, Kay is participating in a "Ladies in Blues" concert at The Royal Room on October 2nd. More information can be found on her website, inspirationalproductions.net.
