Telitha Floyd: Providing Direct Residential Services Through PK Management

In a recent interview on The Day with Trae, Telitha Floyd, a social services coordinator for the property management company PK Management, shared her inspiring approach to bringing resources directly to residents. She emphasized the importance of creating a sense of belonging within communities and the transformative power of direct services for residents lacking family support and adequate finances.

Driven by a passion for helping others, Floyd started his journey in social work embedding herself in communities by volunteering and seeking out local initiatives. "I'm really a boots to the ground kind of girl,” she said.

This proactive approach allowed her to build a strong network of reliable community resources, which she now utilizes in her career. She meticulously vets organizations, even calling 211 in every new place she goes. "It's important if you refer somebody to a service that you know exactly how it works because there's a lot of trauma that comes into searching for services,” she said.

As a social services coordinator, Floyd's primary goal is to help residents "stay in their forever home," aligning with PK Management's commitment to fostering relationships between low-income residents and the communities surrounding their homes. She works with a diverse group, from 18-year-olds to 96-year-olds, addressing a wide range of needs including transportation, food services, and rental assistance.

A key element of her strategy is fostering a strong sense of community among residents. She organizes monthly activities, from potlucks and storytelling to fitness classes and educational sessions. These events are often facilitated by external organizations she brings in, like the Seattle Public Library, which visits monthly to exchange books and videos.

Floyd’s commitment to equitable access to services defines her approach as a social services coordinator. She highlighted a partnership with the West Seattle Food Bank, which sets up a food service area every Friday at PK Management’s Seattle location where residents can get fresh produce, meat, and other groceries.

"It's not just about giving them a referral or a service…” she said. “It's making sure that it's the most equitable way to get that service."

Floyd believes this model of direct, compassionate service coordination should be adopted across the social service industry. She argued that it's equitable for not just community members, but also small businesses who rely on permanent communities to thrive. She sees it as a solution to reduce evictions and displacement, ultimately benefiting the community's bottom line by keeping people housed.

Floyd's work exemplifies how intentionality, compassion, and direct action can create thriving, supportive communities, turning housing complexes into tight-knit communities that stand the test of time.
