Food With Melanin: Besa Gordon Previews Chef Trey Lamont’s New Series on Good Day Seattle
Besa Gordon joined Good Day Seattle this morning to preview the first episode of Chef Trey Lamont’s new series Food With Melanin, launching in early 2026. Uplifting the history behind local kitchens, the Jerk Shack Kitchen chef is all about giving Black chefs their flowers and bringing their stories to the forefront.
“There are a lot of amazing Black chefs out here, but they don't always have the resources and also don't get the same coverage that other chefs do. This show is changing that,” Gordon said.
The first preview featured Chef Lamont’s conversation with Chef Erika White at Fat’s Chicken and Waffles in Seattle’s Central District, where they talked about all things culinary, culture, and community. Gordon explained that Fat’s was the perfect introduction to Food With Melanin due to the Southern soul food restaurant’s deep significance to Seattle’s Black community.
“This restaurant space, from before I was born, has always been a beacon for the community,” Gordon said, speaking to Fat’s nearly decade-long run and the legacy of celebrated restaurants that inhabited the space before, including Catfish Corner.
The first preview of Food With Melanin airs this weekend on Back2Besa, along with other stories that celebrate Pacific Northwest food and artistic excellence across Washington State.
